Time once again for On Point Live with the stars of our show, Vince Ferragamo and Jackie Slater, talking to you about sports the way you've never heard talked about before. I'm Michael Horn with our producer Corey Moreno. Gentlemen, welcome back to the show this week. Where you been? We've been looking for you.
SPEAKER_04Oh, we've been everywhere, Michael, everywhere, man. Country, right? Welcome home to rest. I was in Richmond, Virginia, Jackie, you know, to see the Pony World Series. My grandson was playing. We got to show you some pictures later. It was remarkable. Did Harvey get anyway? Yeah, he got the home run derby. He hit the home run in that thing. Yeah, he did, but he did real well. Great game.
SPEAKER_03Great games. I was stumbling around and watching a bunch of big name stars do their thing over at the Rams camp. Training camp. Yes, it was quite impressive. It really was, Vince. It was the Rams are headed in the right direction.
SPEAKER_00You were at a card show as well, too, right?
SPEAKER_03Absolutely. I was at the what they call the National. It's the largest sports card and memorabilia show in the country. It's held in Chicago, Illinois, different places, but this year it was in Chicago and saw a lot of people up there. And uh I never wrote my name so many times at once at one setting in my life. He's tired of writing his name down, Mike.
SPEAKER_00What's that name, uh Jackie Worth, these days? Two, three thousand bucks?
SPEAKER_03Well, I I don't know. It depends it depends on what they sell the particular memorabilia for, because they had jerseys, they had mini helmets, they had regular sized helmets, they had pictures, and they had uh an assortment of forty-five different cards from uh gone years gone past, and this year there was uh about six or seven new cards introduced, and all of them uh have you know are different, and you know, you they want you to sign them, and it's just it's just a whole lot of work. It's a lot of work.
SPEAKER_00We don't even have uh signed uh pictures of you guys in our lobby, for God's sake.
SPEAKER_04In the background, I know it shouldn't be. We gotta get a picture of it. Hey we gotta get Jackie playing again, man. They just saw Darnell Wright for $29 million a year.
SPEAKER_03A right tackle that for four years. He was second in team all pro last year.
SPEAKER_00You know, there's uh going to rumor going around that Aaron Donald make him out of retirement. The big rumor that I have heard, and Corey and I were investigating last week, is you two might be coming back as backups.
unknownGo ahead.
SPEAKER_03Put me. Put to it.

You were back in Virginia looking at some baseball. Is that correct? Is that correct?
SPEAKER_04Well, they each year, you know, they do the World Series for Little League and Pony League. And my grandson uh Vincenzo Gutierrez was playing, and you can see number 15. You know, you know why he wears that number, right? So why? Uh well. But here he is at the plate, and you know, he's uh he had a he batted like over 600 in in the uh in the games playing up to the final. They made it to the final. You can see he's a he's uh a number four hitter there. But you know, it's uh it's so ironic that he plays for coach Brian Hoff, who's the cousin of Sam Darnold. And so they really yeah, they really have a great coaching staff. Uh they really the parents are really into this game. They they have fun with it, they realize it's just little league, it's just you know, it's just young players playing, but they play so well together that um you know they were able to go to the end. They play teams from all over the world, Mike. They play Japan, Mexico, uh Dominican Republic from New York, Chicago, Virginia, Texas. No, they made it they made it to the finals. Vince, are all of his competitors 11 years old? Well, they're supposed to be Jackie. Eleven and under is this age group or pony. Yeah. Some you can just turn 12, depends on what they do.
SPEAKER_03Now, Harvey Air is pretty big for an 11-year-old, right? Yes. Were there any teams with players bigger than him?
SPEAKER_04Mexico. He was Javi's tall. Every player on the Mexico team was taller than him. And their pitcher, they played them in the finals, Jackie. They lost two to nothing. Yeah. They shut out every team except the final game, but they gave Mexico a run because Mexico was blowing everybody out, too. But we played them right to the end, and that pitcher pitched 74 miles per hour. I mean, I mean Wait a minute. He was 11 years old. How fast is the biggest? The Guardians pitches 82 miles an hour and strikes out 10 in the Major League Baseball. How fast does uh your fastest pitcher throw the ball? Oh well, we have a we have some pretty good relievers, but they're probably 60, 65, maybe. But 74. 74. That's that's on a different level, huh? Oh my gosh. That was good. But you know, they did a lot of great stuff. He hit the home run and the home run derby, and they broke some records. So you can hear him. They just he just hit the home run, the home run derby. Oh. Yeah, and then around the world, Mike, they they did a a throw around the world. They broke the world record for the uh little league for uh for Pony League.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_04And they did it again, Jack, and they beat their record. And then they had a relay, they won the relay. So I mean they they're pretty talented.
SPEAKER_03Sounds like a pretty pretty good talented team. Yeah, pretty and well coached, it sounds. Yes, very good. How about that?
SPEAKER_04Yeah. So we have fun.
SPEAKER_00You know, high school baseball.
SPEAKER_04They're only allowed to throw so many pitches, Mike. 85 pitches maximum. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00That's more than the Dodgers starting uh uh group does.
SPEAKER_04Yeah. And then 80, he pitched 83 pitches. He they left him in the entire game. Well, they would have put it pulled him out if we could have got him out of the game. Uh, this might have we might have had a shot.
SPEAKER_00Who was managing Tommy LaSorda?
SPEAKER_04Yeah. Kirk Gets him in there. Oh man. That's exciting, Vince. Yeah, it was fun. It was a lot of fun. They did great.
SPEAKER_00All right, so um and they came in what, second place, is that right?
SPEAKER_04Yeah, they went to the World Series finals and lost two to nothing to Mexico. But um they gave him a run for their money. I mean, it was it was it was a great uh a great uh tribute to this team from Placentia, California. So they made it all the way to the East Cards.
SPEAKER_00Are there any of these pictures available for uh autographs and framing?
SPEAKER_04I'm sure they'll probably be on the tops. You saw the tops uh in the backfield was one of the sponsors. They do they do make cards.
SPEAKER_00They do make them for these kids. Jackie Slater's uh card shop that's now opening up in Placentia, California.
SPEAKER_03Man, I tell you Jackie. This was an unbelievable experience. It like I said, it was the national sports memorabilia cart and memorabilia shows in in Chicago.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, you're signing hats right in front of the Broncos there.
SPEAKER_03Well, I'm I mean, those right behind me. I don't know why they took the picture at this angle, but right behind me was Rams helmets.
SPEAKER_04Oh, they did. Oh, they see a Chicago Bears.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, Ram Rams helmets right there, and then uh they had I don't know how many jerseys I signed, and I mean many helmets, Vince. They brought out pictures. I mean, uh just whatever the fans wanted. And then they took you to what they call the public. So and they were making an announcement uh over the loud speaker that uh I was there at that at that particular time. Anyone that was interested in getting a signature would come over and give them the slip and pay for the slip, I guess.
SPEAKER_04And then the line go out the door?
SPEAKER_03The line was pretty long, Vince. The line was pretty long. I hadn't they I hadn't been there in in a number of years, and so I guess if you don't go back, they try to get you before you keel over with a carnary.
SPEAKER_00So, Jackie, so it's the fans that get to get the first signings and then the general public. What what uh makes the difference?
SPEAKER_03Well, it it's it is the I think that a lot of people will reach out to these sports carts and memorabilia places and request autographs. I there's no way I can conclude that all of the people there uh surmise all of the the uh the requests because they they would bring out sp special made jerseys with my number on it and name, and they want me to sign it in a certain spot. And the same thing with helmets, they want you to sign it right below the hole or right above the bar, you know. And they had these specific requests, which tells me that people had reached out to these people, these card memorabilia people, and and requested the autograph and where they wanted their particular item autographed uh at. And so it it it's a huge, huge business. I I I can't tell you so many, I saw so many different people back there. Uh I I could just start calling names and you wouldn't believe it, but it was really, really interesting, uh really a lot of fun being there. I mean, the only thing I the only thing that I regretted having to do was to sign my name as many times as I did. I have never in one time sit and sign my name. And and and the and the and the interesting part about it is I I got a little plastic sheet vents that's about a half an inch uh tall and about four inches long, and I'm supposed to fit my entire signature inside of that with this small little pin. And I guess they take that and they put it on cards and they put it on mini helmets and they put it on pictures and all of that, and and obviously they sell that. So it was a really interesting week. Yeah. Weekend.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Uh Jackie, I um Corey and I got together this little uh fan, it's a uh Rams fan document. Don't don't see the uh the reverse mortgage on there. Would you sign right there? It's in those little brackets there. Jackie Slater. Oh my goodness. Corey, get him to print his name next to it, would you?
SPEAKER_03Want to make sure it's me, huh?
SPEAKER_04Yeah. But can you imagine signing your name for four hours straight? Give me a bunch of keep right. I mean, it's g that's tough work right now. That's all I was doing was talking about.
SPEAKER_00But they're in the Jackie's Rams training camp. Haven't you done that in the past? Oh, well, for sure.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, but Mike, there's sports collectors all over the country, and we get we continually get fan mail all the time. It just loads up. They they know where to send it, and uh you know, they put a return address on it and they go out.
SPEAKER_03Corey, can you put that picture back up there? Here's some guys that was there at the show. I saw a lot of people, but right here to my right is my old teammate and former and former uh Houston Oiler, uh Robert Brazil with the big hat on. He's he's a in a NFL Hall of Famer. And just to the left of me there is Charles Haley. Wow. Uh the great pass rusher that played with the uh 49ers won Super Bowl with them. The Cowboys, the Cowboys won Super Bowl with them, and and uh a young man that quite frankly I had my hands full trying to keep off of our quarterbacks. So those are just a couple of guys. There's the man right there. Oh now, yes, this is different. Yesterday I I I'm up at the Rams practice and I go up there and you went to training camp. I went to training camp, and this guy right here is Rosie Greer. He's the oldest and only living member of the Rams former quadruple of the fearsome foresome.
SPEAKER_00That was big.
SPEAKER_03It was huge. It was huge. And he was he's uh as humble as anybody you would ever want to meet. He can play the guitar, he can sing, he he's a brave guy, because you remember he grabs her hands, her hands there's Harold Jackson. There's Harold Jackson there. He played 16 years, one of the most speed demon, one of the run, one of the best deep threats to ever play pro football. And this young man right here is Jarquez. Jarquez Hunter. And he's from your hometown. No, not my hometown. He's from Philadelphia, Mississippi. He went to Neshova High School, just the opposite of Marcus Dupree. There are two high schools there, Philadelphia High and Neshova County High. He was in Neshova. And Vince, we were there for we were there for a family reunion, and all of his relatives came up and said, Hey, we know this guy. Say hello to him when you get back to LA.

So Vince and Jackie, you guys traveling last week. Vince, finish up here with the Rams training camp. What did you find out?
SPEAKER_04Well, Jackie is the one who went to training camp, but uh, you know, this is the time to look at a lot of the new players and see how the the trade uh acquisitions are gonna fit in with your your your your club. And of course Miles Garrett was been the big talk and uh he's been uh better than advertised, I think, Jackie. I mean he he's uh he's a real dynamite threat on for defense. He can't run against can't you you know he's gonna sack the quarterback. So and then Trent McDuffie too, Jackie. You got a chance to go down to Rams Camp and look at some of these guys up and close. Yeah. Personal.
SPEAKER_03Well, I've seen enough of Miles Garrett over the last few years to not have to see him at all, which no one did uh when I was there the other day because he didn't practice. He's got uh uh something going on with his lower body and everything. And I and I really do believe this this is MacBay's effort to try to keep him uh developing that callus as he refers to it. You know, you get a callus on your foot or your hand, he calls getting ready to play football developing a callus. And I and I think Miles Garrett is in the process of doing that without being exposed to too much because uh I didn't see him make, you know, out there and running around and making any plays. What I did see, however, was Matthew Stafford and uh throwing a really sh crisp ball, throwing some very accurate balls. And uh I I just you know, this could be one of those seasons, depending on how it goes, where Matthew Stafford could reverse everything that we saw a year ago. And this is what I mean by that. He's starting off fresh. Yes. His offensive line is, you know, we we're not sure about uh we know Brandon McClendon set in real well a year ago at right tackle after Robin Havenstein got hurt, and I'm hoping that he'll hold up again for a full season because he's proud of that he was a backup. And then over on the left side, Alaric Jackson hasn't played a whole lot of football to this point, and I'm hoping everything rolls smoothly with him. Because if those two tackles aren't there with some consistency, then a healthy Matthew Stafford could digress to a guy that's dealing with injuries to perhaps a guy that's banged up to the point where he can't play. Right now, big chunks of the season. Now, what I did also see was some dynamic uh uh you know runs by their backs, you know, the their backs, you know, they got the quickest backs that that are in pro football right now. And then then they've got uh Jarquez Hunter, a kid from Neshova County, uh back in Philadelphia, Mississippi, who they drafted a a year ago out of Auburn. Yeah, very talented guy. I saw him over there yesterday. So they they're they they're not gonna have any problems there. And if they can get the offensive line healthy, Vince, their backs averaged two and a half yards before they were even touched by linebackers or secondary people. And that's that's a combination of great design, uh play calling, uh situational awareness. It's it's it and and and good offensive line play. So you have to give Ryan Wendell, the line coach, a lot of credit. To the to me, this team was looked like it was rolling. It's it's headed in the right direction.
SPEAKER_00Where is training camp? This is their new location, right?
SPEAKER_04Uh yeah, this is up there at uh in LA. Just north of the airport there. Right. At the uh at the university there. And you know, I think, Mike, that they the objective of this training. Loyola Mariemont, exactly. Uh is to try, I think the the main key, I think, is is Jackie's alluded to, uh the offensive line. We we they gotta narrow down their left tackle because right now you know Lark Jackson had the off-the-field uh problems and they don't know about his comeback if he's gonna be available. And that's that's a big question mark. So once they solve that question, I think then they're off and running because you know their special teams is is stout this year. They've got they've got Bubba Ventrone is their is their special teams coordinator. Their their defense is gonna be dynamite. I mean, they have everything they need, their offense, everything is there except their offensive line. So once that's done, this team's there's no stopping this team.
SPEAKER_00We gotta address something here. Um rumor going around Aaron Donald still possible to return after retirement. And would he perform at his usual level? Has he missed some steps in a couple of years? Jackie Slater, did you hear any mumblings about this?
SPEAKER_03Well, I mean, uh Sean McVay has openly let everyone know that he's been in contact with him and that Aaron is doing some working out and he's doing some lifting and he's you know just uh testing the parameters of where he thinks he should be prior to uh getting to camp. And I think all of that's true. And I think the the real reality is that he he he may come back. I someone has told me who's very close to the situation, Vince, that it's a done deal that he is coming back. My only thing is uh and I and I know if he does come back, he and Miles Garrett and all of those guys along the defensive line, Kobe Turner, Braden Fish, those guys, Byron Young, they're gonna be special. There's no doubt about it. But my only thing I thought about this, Vince, what would he think? What would Aaron think if he thought, you know, I'm I missed $30 million a year for the last two years sitting out when I was two years younger, I could have played and made sixty million dollars and now I'm coming out of retirement. You know, I think about that sometimes, and I and I can see that being a bit of a discouragement to him, but if he wants to win that ring, if and I think he wants to win that ring. Remember how he held his finger up and said he got that ring? If he wants to win that second ring, and that's a very real possibility with this team, I think we'll see him back out.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, he's achieved so much in his career. So much. And he's at age thirty-five. And as Jackie alluded to that the last two years he's could have played, but he decided to retire. What uh motivation is it to bring him out just for another championship ring? To me, it doesn't make a lot of sense because It's the grind. It's the the the physical uh you know the physical wear and tear on your body that you have to come out and you have to cause he wants to play Jackie at the top level. I know, but he wouldn't even second he wouldn't stand for second better.
SPEAKER_03But Vince, entertain this thought just for a second. Suppose they brought him out just to do what he does best, which is rush the passer. Rush the passer over the duck. Line up over the duck. Even that though, Jackie.
SPEAKER_04You've got to be in tip top conditions. Oh, no doubt about it. No doubt. You know, he's putting himself through this regimen right now, thinking, can I do this? Will it cooperate with with this weights and the the stress? And so I mean if he can answer that question and he feels great, then maybe yes, maybe I could see him then coming out. But anything else, he's not coming out for the money. He's not doing it for the money, he's doing it to what?
SPEAKER_03To to get a ring. To get another ring. He's already got and and and and to also measurable amount of ego that goes in this too. Well, could be. You know, for the last two or three years, Miles Garrett has been said to have claimed the crown of being the best pure pass rusher in all of pro football. Now, can you imagine the ego of Aaron Donald sitting there thinking, hey man, he would have he they probably wouldn't have caused Miles' name as the best pass rusher if I had been playing. So let me go out and show them who the best pure pass rusher is. You know, you gotta you gotta I I factor in egos like that. I factor in egos like that, Vince, especially with defensive linemen, because they have some of the biggest egos in all of our United States of America.
SPEAKER_00Let me ask you this. As far as the team goes and the player, you know, this one point is the aspect of the game. The other aspect is money from the franchise, from having that player, Aaron Donald, return to your team. If he comes back, is there a chance we saw what happened with Cooper Cup going to Seattle? They go in and they win the uh the championship. Everybody's, I'm now a Seattle fan. I don't like the Rams. They got rid of Cooper Cup. There's a lot to do with marketing here.
SPEAKER_04Could be too, yeah. Bring the fans back. That's true. Back in uh back in contention so that they're they're all rooting for the Rams again. Yeah, because that was a loss that most people didn't want to see happen. They didn't want to see the big thing. But now that's that's a good point, Mike. That makes a lot of sense.
SPEAKER_00See, I'd have you guys on the team. I'd sign you up to some deal, you know, a hundred bucks a game, something like that.
SPEAKER_03A thousand. You think I would risk my life for a hundred bucks a game? Well, just to have you on the field.
SPEAKER_00To have me on the field. To have me on the field there. Well, you don't carry you mean on the field in uniform, just walking up and down the sideline. Yeah, you carry uniform. Carry Fred Dreyer on and off the field, and the three of you sit there as the old fears. Exactly.
SPEAKER_04They can learn a lot from those guys, Mike. I'll tell you that right now. They can learn a lot from you guys. That's what I'm saying.
SPEAKER_03The main thing I would learn was would be not to touch a football field unless with the live option going on.
SPEAKER_04Just tell them what to do, Jackie. They need to know no more parts of that. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00So so Jerry, uh Jackie, the takeaway here is possible he's gonna return. Uh in you too, Vince. You think yes?
SPEAKER_04Um I say no, but Jackie says yes.
SPEAKER_03I think there's a very high probability that he will.
SPEAKER_00See, I think that's a good thing.
SPEAKER_03And I also think that if he comes back, he's gonna be used sparingly in isolated situations where third and long, second and long, where it's time to get after the quarterback, he's gonna be a he's gonna be a designated pass rusher.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Well, you know, there might be, you know, different uh coaches for special teams and all that. You guys could be the coaches of cheese, you know, for harmonycheese.com.
SPEAKER_03Well, we can always kind of like something something zany.
SPEAKER_00Something great. Yeah, be really good over here.
SPEAKER_03Well, well, I I can tell you this. I I eat more cheese now than I ever have in my in my life, and it's only because I enjoy it. I mean, you know, I'm an older guy, I'm a I'm I'm retired, I'm working on retirement, and and there's nothing better for man to do under the sun than to eat, to drink, and to tell himself that his work is good. This is a gift, and that's what I'm doing.
SPEAKER_04Of all the cheeses, can I name off all the cheeses that we have? Please. Let me name off all these cheeses that you have. Tell me which one you like the best. Okay, you ready? Well, you know what I mean. Okay, you got Abergelli. Aberghelly. Perlo cheddar, Asiago, okay, pepper jack. Pepper jack. Okay, red hot, smoked gouda, and we'll be back. Pommes, pizzarella, good.
SPEAKER_00We'll be back. Oh, we got more time left here. Keep going with your cheeses.
SPEAKER_04Man, they're all good.
SPEAKER_03You said you got you got more cheese.
SPEAKER_04How about the goat cheese?
SPEAKER_03Don't forget goat cheese, too. How many more was on that list, man? They keep going and going and going.
SPEAKER_04They make it all there. Keep going now.
SPEAKER_00On point live. Email us on point at crntalk.com. On point at Crntalk.com. We'll be back with On Point Live. We're back on point live. Michael Horn, Corey Marino with the stars of our show, Vince Ferragamo and Jackie Slater. Talking some football, you know, season C or preseason games are going. Uh, we got games already uh started this week. We're talking about Jackie going to the Rams training camp. Vince, you've been kind of keeping an eye a little bit on the Chargers. What's going on there?
SPEAKER_04Well, I'm excited about this team this year, Mike, because they the acquisition of Mike McDaniels is the offensive coordinator. And Chris O'Leary, the defensive coordinator, has been a great boost for this team. And a guy like Justin Herbert, now with what he's got, and let me tell you a little bit of what Mike's uh concept is it's designed schematically to confuse the defenses, and he no one can do it better than he can. He comes from a great background, coached at San Francisco, went to Miami, now he's with the Chargers. He knows how to handle the quarterback because he mentioned one great thing. He told Justin that let your feet talk to you. So he's gonna deliver the ball much quicker. He can read the entire defense, he's got the great arm, he's got the great athletic ability, he can do whatever, he's a very smart guy. So this is this whole entire system is gonna expedite their offense and it's gonna expedite their pre-snap movement, and that means less time for the defense to recognize and to react. And this is gonna be extremely important because they have receivers like Quentin Johnston, they got Ladd McConkey, Trey Harris, and they got their great tight end now. They got David Nojoku. Don't forget this guy, he's gonna be dynamite him along with Charlie Kohler, Jackie, they they and you know where his whole system comes from the running game. He's a running game coordinator. And with this play action pass, along with all this other Rasmataz they're gonna have, Mike.
SPEAKER_03And the running game watch this. And the running game is the is the offensive line's best friend.
SPEAKER_04Yes, and that one of their strengths, Jackie, is their offensive line. And their defense now is gonna be real credible.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, their defense is gonna be a good thing.
SPEAKER_04Derwin James back there is gonna love it.
SPEAKER_03Yes, and Durwin James has come out and said that having this offensive coordinator has made him a much better play caller, much quicker in his thinking, much quicker in his he has to react. Otherwise, he gets beat. So they've they've been allowing the offensive coordinator ever since he's been there.
SPEAKER_04And I've noticed this preseason training camp, the excitement that's brewing over there. Right. I don't know if you go to these camps, but if you go to that camp, you'll see excitement all the time. Yeah, and it's it's just constantly just getting back to the city.
SPEAKER_03The practices, there's a lot of hype.
SPEAKER_04The practice is a lot of things. It just doesn't start the first game. It starts way before now, now and all the way through the season.
SPEAKER_03Right, and Vince, we've seen that before. You know, we've we've seen we've been on teams where all of a sudden everybody comes to life. The offense is excited about what they're running because they think they're getting ready to beat Derwin James and those guys over there. And by the same token, Durwin James and attention more because they know they have to be alert because they're seeing so much movement, they're seeing so many formations, so many It builds confidence, Jackie. Yeah, but but have simply because you have to deal with it every single day. I know. That's what builds the confidence. I know.
SPEAKER_04And they know, they recognize it from the coaching staff.
SPEAKER_03And their defensive coordinator, his name is O'Leary, right? Yes. He's a smart, sharp young man. He was he's seen it all. He was with at Michigan with the card. He was at Michigan Harbor. So he's putting those guys, he's giving them signals. He's used to having a ramped up offense in front of him with a lot of these uh college coaches, especially the one that he's coaching with right now. And he's putting and he's getting his defensive people, his personnel, comfortable with dealing with all of this stuff.
SPEAKER_04And probably the toughest division in football, Jacks is at AFC West. Okay, now you've got you've got the Raiders are coming. Kansas City, Chief, you got Denver. You got Denver. I mean, this is the toughest conference going on right now. And Corey's a big, I know Corey's a big Denver Bronco guy over here. And Corey, I mean, what's gonna happen? They'll be fighting with the Chiefs for a second. Yeah.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. For second. For second. And I and I and I'm inclined to agree. I'm inclined to agree. I I think his I think the team that he's that he's enamored with, with the team that he's enamored with will be fighting with the Chiefs for second, because I happen to believe that the LA Chargers are going to be the best team in the FC.
SPEAKER_00Well, they could be everybody's been talking about their quarterback Herbert, and uh now with Mike McDaniel, uh the uh McDaniel's new offensive system, maybe they click everything up a notch here.
SPEAKER_04Right. Oh, it definitely is gonna be that way. Yeah, definitely.
SPEAKER_00And you think uh on defense the same thing, more interceptions, you know, a little more kick in the old pants here.
SPEAKER_04Well, a good offense is a good defense, Mike. Let me tell you that right now. They gotta be better, Vince. They gotta be better. Look at what happened in the uh what happened in the FIFA. Right. You you have Spain, they couldn't get the Argentina could not get the ball. They couldn't. And that's a good offense. Keeps the ball away from the defense.
SPEAKER_03That's right.
SPEAKER_04Or the defense keeps the ball away from the defense.
SPEAKER_03Keeps away from the offense. But you know, when you think about having to make decisions on a daily basis against quick moving, uh smart uh formation using offenses, you gotta give the people over at the uh at the at the chargers the the benefit. They you gotta give them benefit of the doubt that they are gonna be a better football team on that side of the ball. And you know, when you think about it, you know, Harbaugh has done what I believe a good coach must do to his football team to stabilize it, to give it strength, to give it momentum as it moves through the season, and that's run the ball. And the line play. That's flathead people at the line of scrimmage, knock them off the ball, insert the ball in the line of scrimmage and take their hard.
SPEAKER_04So he's got Rashon, he's got Rashawn Slater, he's got Alt, and he's got their new their new uh center for Washington.
SPEAKER_03He's very good. They got a bunch of they got a bunch of players, but more importantly, they got a coach that got the horns to run the football, Vince. That's what you gotta do. You gotta run the football. They will.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, change is there for the better. So it's gonna be a pretty good season. Again, health is the key. Uh, we got preseason games going on. And gentlemen, we also have what seems to be uh I don't know why they do it every year, new uniforms for everybody. What's the deal here? I gotta make that money in marketing.
SPEAKER_03Uh the interesting thing. You like that color? You know, I played in that color. But the interesting the interesting thing about this color right here is, you know, that's Puka Nikola. And did you notice he got a new haircut? Yeah, he does. He he let me have all those haircuts. Yeah, well that's who that is. That's Puka Nikula. He's got a lot of things. I have played in this bright yellow and and and white pants. We didn't have that yellow uh stripe down the side, but I played in this color. It's not one of my favorite, you know. That's a nacho cheese color, isn't it? I know a lot of people don't like it. It's not one of my favorite Vince. You never played in that color. No, I don't know. But I did, and you know, I don't I don't I didn't I you know it wasn't so bad for me. I I got kind of got comfortable. I like this. This right here for me, this right here for me works. You know, it's all white, it's highlighted with blue numbers. The dark blue helmet is highlighted with white horns. Well, the way they got a change, don't they? Look at the white shoes. Look at the white horn. See, years and years ago, Vince, offensive linemen didn't have the option to wear white shoes. Everything that we got in our 16s and 17s and 15s were all big black shoes with a stripe down the side. High tops. How about that? But now, but did you ever wear a high top shoe? Yeah, I wore how to I had to wear it for my ankles. I kept twisting my ankles. But you see these white shoes and that you know that that flows. You see it? I like the cleat. Yeah, it's a throwback, you see? Uh-huh. That's Brian Young and Miles Garrett and Jacobin Fisk, Brandon Fisk. See, this is the modern day fierce of the. Well, on the top of the locker, they have the name of Lamar Lundy, Rosie Greer, Nelson. There they are right there, Vince. From left to right, 74 is Merle Nobles. Deacon. Then Deacon Jones, and then Rosie Greer and Lamar Lundon. Now, Rosie Greer, number 76, is the oldest and only living member of the of this group of guys right here, known as the fearsome foresome, for the dynamic ability to get after the quarterback. Superior pass rush game. Deacon Jones, if you remember, he was allowed to use a head slap. That's right. And what he outlawed it because what he was doing is slapping people on the side of the head, making them blink. Make them blink, and then he would use his foot speed because he was as quick as any as quick as any outside linebacker playing pro football today at about 270 pounds, and he would be right by you and gone right raining down on the quarterback.
SPEAKER_04He didn't like quarterbacks.
SPEAKER_03Oh, he hated him. But you know what? He liked me. He liked you. Yeah, because I was a ram quarterback. Yeah, maybe because you were a ram, and maybe because he never had to play against you. There you go. That's why he liked you. I'm glad I never had to play against him. I can't tell you what he said. I can't tell you what he said. Once they liberated the rules and we could punch a guy like that, yeah, I can't tell you what he called me. I'm telling you. He said I was a holding. I won't repeat the rest of it. He wasn't very nice.
SPEAKER_00No white shoes on the throwback jerseys. They're black. Oh my goodness. Yeah, no.
SPEAKER_03No white shoes on the throwback jersey.
SPEAKER_00Well, yeah, the old ones. You got with the fearsome foresome black shoes. Yeah, oh, back then, yeah, on the throwback.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_03See, right there, all black shoes. See that Vince? Yeah, I see them. See, now if they're gonna do this, if they're gonna do this, if they're gonna do this jersey, they need to they need to wear the black shoes. They need to wear the black shoes. Now that's legitimate, authentic throwback attire right there. There you go. That's that's what the guys do.
SPEAKER_04That makes sense.
SPEAKER_03That's what they need to do. Go all the way in. All the way in on the throwback uniform.
SPEAKER_04How about these hold-in, hold out guys and these?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, what is a hold out holding? Can you believe that?
SPEAKER_04Now listen, if you hold out, that means you don't go to camp. And you know what you get charged? $50,000 a day. Think about that. That's just natural. Think about that man. So if I'm gonna hold out, I'd rather hold in.
SPEAKER_03I'll go to camp if you're gonna be able to do that. If you're gonna hold, you'd rather hold in than hold out. Because holding out is gonna cost you. Well, and that's what everybody's doing. Jamar Gibbs did it. Yeah, but just think about it. They call it a hold in now. Right. But the reality of it all is the guys are going to camp, and this this is not new, the hold in. Right. The guys will go to camp and then they would limp like they had an injury or act like there's something wrong with them. And so they get until they sign their contract. Yeah, until they sign their contract. They get treatment. So now they're calling it a hold-in, and they're just sparing the uh reality of calling of calling these guys a bunch of liars. Well, hey, because they're saying they're hurt.
SPEAKER_04Jackie, obviously it's working because Bijan Robinson for the Atlanta Falcons just signed a new contract. He was a hold in.
SPEAKER_03Yes.
SPEAKER_04$25 million a year. $75 million for three years. That's right.
SPEAKER_03That makes him the highest paid running back in NFL history.
SPEAKER_00Something else. Now, what about a basketball? LeBron James finally makes his decision. He's uh he's gonna become a 76er. He had teams to choose from uh why the boy and why the 76ers.
SPEAKER_04Well, Jalen Brown just went there from the Celtics, Mike. I mean, it's like they they thought they were set after he went there. Now they're gonna get LeBron. Yeah, and LeBron had to make a decision with the Cavaliers, Miami Heat, the uh Warriors. No, no, I'm gonna I'm gonna go to Philadelphia 76ers.
SPEAKER_03And then a big part of his decision was actually taking a different franchise, or being part of taking a different franchise to the championship and winning it. Right. But I mean, he had to have looked at these rosters. Now just look at some of the guys that he's gonna be playing with. You got Josh, you got uh uh Tyrese Maxie, okay, Jalen Brown, who you just mentioned, VJ Edgecombe, and Joel MB, a legitimate big. And and who knows else, who else, who knows who else is on that roster? So he looks at just what they have right here and the way these guys played a year ago, and he said, if I if I get to be a part of this fixture right here, these six guys, we're gonna have a legitimate shot at winning a championship.
SPEAKER_04And they haven't done it for years, Jackie. The 76ers, I mean, you'd have to go back to way back.
SPEAKER_03Alan I was the number four. Yeah, yeah, yeah. So way back.
SPEAKER_04I mean, here's a chance to well he wants to make history, Jack. He's already made history, but he's already won three championship with three different trophies with three franchises. The Heat, two times with the Heat, the Cavaliers, and the Lakers. Now he goes there, he's got a chance to do four.
SPEAKER_03Right, and you you never say that. At his age, 42.
SPEAKER_04But he he still thinks he can contribute and make help this team win.
SPEAKER_03And that's the interesting thing, is that he thinks that he has what it takes to play all of those games at a very, very high level and enabling these men, these very talented ball, young ball players, uh, to reach their goal of winning a championship. And I, you know, I I can't uh for the and he's not doing it for the money, Vince. No. What two years, eight million dollars?
SPEAKER_04He's made enough money.
SPEAKER_03Two years, eight million dollars, that is chump change for him. This guy's a billion dollars.
SPEAKER_00It's gonna be Dr. LJ, the new Dr. LJ for the Sixers.
SPEAKER_03Dr. LJ LJ. Dr.
SPEAKER_00Jr. LJ.

Looks like the Dodgers got a little bit better, Jackie Slater.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, they they certainly did. I mean, they get they arguably the best pitcher in baseball right now. When you say Vince, go ahead. Yes. Now, Vince, this is what I don't understand. How is it that the Dodgers they share their profits? How is it that the Dodgers are able to come up with monies, extra monies, to go out and sign these guys like that? Because I think they've got to be the envy of Major League Baseball with their ability to do this.
SPEAKER_04Well, to sign a Tariq Scooball, you have to have something in the pot in your pocket to do that with Jackie. And every team in Major League Baseball gets the same amount of money, but that doesn't include the local market. The local market in Los Angeles, they did the local TV cable market, has provided $8.3 billion to the Dodgers for the next 25 years. That's $334 million. They make three times what every other average Major League Baseball franchise makes. The only other team is the New York Yankees. They make almost $1.190 million per year.
SPEAKER_03So if I'm a fan, if I'm a fan of the Dodgers and they don't spend money like this, then I'm not going to support them.
SPEAKER_04Exactly. I'm not going to support them. So that's why they're getting guys like Otani and uh Scuball and these guys. And they're deferring, Mike, they're deferring the payment. So I mean they only pay Otani two million a year. He defers 68 million. Whoa.
SPEAKER_00And Jackie, you can sit at home in that easy chair years, press the button in the Barker Lounger, go back, grab a hot dog, and watch the games there as Vince and I do. Am I right?
SPEAKER_04You know, maybe maybe they should give the food for free over at Dodger Stadium. I don't know because Glory, I mean, it's like what they charge you for a beer or for a hot dog. You know that if you're giving somebody for 12 bucks.
SPEAKER_03If you're giving somebody a hundred million dollars a year, what do you think you're gonna charge for hot dogs? I guess so. Minnesota. You gotta pay something for these guys.
SPEAKER_00You've got to buy your own Harmony Cheese at HarmonyCheese.com. That'd be really nice.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, I do got to mention something about Garrett Williams, or Gavin Williams, for the uh Guardians Jackie. Man, he pitched. He's only one of three pitchers in Major League Baseball history that's pitched 10 strikeouts per game the last four games. So four games in a row. He's on a roll. He's on a roll. Watch this guy pitch.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, we'll talk about him next week because we need more time to discuss it. We need two hours on this show with Vince Ferragamo and Jackie Slater. Email us on point at CRNtalk.com. Jackie Slater, Vince Ferragamo. What do we always say?
SPEAKER_02Stay on point.
